This guide provides information on both registration types.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How Does The Dutch Car Registration System Work?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have to meet the following conditions to be eligible to have your vehicle registered by the RDW. These requirements apply to both vehicles imported from EU countries and non-EU countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must be at least 18 years old.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must be registered with the Personal Records Database (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rijksoverheid.nl\/onderwerpen\/privacy-en-persoonsgegevens\/basisregistratie-personen-brp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basisregistratie Personen<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must be available to bring the vehicle in person to the inspection centre.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your company must be located in the Netherlands if you want the vehicle registered in the business\u2019 name.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have satisfied all the requirements, follow these steps to register your vehicle imported from a non-EU\/ EFTA country:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Apply for a Temporary Registration Number:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temporary registration number is known as a \u201cone-day registration number\u201d and the RDW hands it out free of charge. This number allows you to drive from your home to the inspection venue. You can request this number while applying for an inspection date.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Documents Submission:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/keuringsafspraakmaken.rdw.nl\/particulier\/aanvraaggegevens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making an inspection appointment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, here are the documents to come with on the assigned date:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Original foreign vehicle registration certificate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valid proof of identity such as a Dutch or foreign passport.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Import documents not older than 12 months.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurococ.eu\/en\/#coc-pedia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certificate of Conformity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COC) that shows that the vehicle was built following EU type approval. You can<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurococ.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get yours here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with EUROCOC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><b>After the Inspection<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After submitting the documents and declaring the vehicle for taxation, you will go on to pay the required fees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The RDW and tax administration will give their approval after which you receive a registration certificate, a registration code, and an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rdw.nl\/over-rdw\/information-in-english\/private\/periodic-technical-inspection-apk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">APK report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (technical inspection) if applicable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For vehicles imported from EU\/EFTA countries, you will also follow the steps above. Additionally, bring proof of your valid foreign vehicle approval so long as it was done where you registered the vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certificaat van Overeenstemming<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COC) isn\u2019t compulsory here but you will need to file a return of vehicle tax too.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How To Apply For Dutch Number Plates?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After receiving your registration certificate, take it to an<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rdw.nl\/particulier\/voertuigen\/auto\/de-kentekenplaat\/kentekenplaatfabrikanten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approved registration plate manufacturer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make your Dutch number plate. You will need to provide proof of identity to collect the registration plates.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How Much For Dutch Car Registration?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Registration fees for Dutch vehicles depend on whether or not the vehicle was imported from an EU member country or not. Fees like payment for the registration certificate and for registration in a person&#8217;s name via the RDW are the same, costing \u20ac40.80 and \u20ac10.75 respectively&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Do Dutch Car Number Plates Look Like?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dutch license plates have a yellow background, a black frame, and alphanumeric characters written in black.
