A significant law change on December 4, 2018, in Italy mandated that residents staying for over 60 days and using a vehicle with foreign plates must register it in Italy and acquire Italian license plates. Starting from 21st of\u00a0 March 2022, all cars with foreign license plates circulating in Italy will have to be registered with the Reve (Public Register of Foreign Vehicles). This is just one of the innovations introduced by Law no. 238 of 23 December 2021 which modifies article 93 of the Highway Code and which after years of waiting should help bring order to the complex issue of vehicles with foreign license plates used in Italy. <\/span>The latest regulation further mandates that foreign nationals gaining Italian residency must re-register any vehicles they own, previously registered abroad, within three months of acquiring residency in Italy<\/span>.<\/span> Those who have citizenship and residence abroad can drive in Italy with a foreign license plate for a maximum of one year.<\/span><\/p>\n
